This blog will serve as the billboard for the Portuguese language classes taught by Dr. Sean McIntyre

Information about the course.

Designed for those who already have some experience with the Portuguese language and would like to practice their conversational skills, increase their vocabulary, and move toward cultural fluency.

For homework assignments, I suggest that students purchase the Brazilian Student Activities Manual to Accompany Ponto de Encontro. This book is available from major online book retailers. Many other materials for this course are free and generally available via internet, Word document or pdf file from the instructors.

We meet once a week on Wednesdays, 6 to 8:15pm at 175 27th Street between Dolores and Guererro (for the first 4 weeks).

We won’t continue with the skype or remote classes, but students will have homework assignments to complete from week to week. In addition, I will provide supplementary materials by email (pdf and word docs), via the idiomaesquisito web page (http://idiomaesquisito.wordpress.com/) and hand-outs in class.

Most homework will be from the Ponto de Encontro Brazilian Activities Manual. This is the only “required” material for our classes (follow link to amazon site where the book can be purchased:
http://www.amazon.com/Brazilian-Activities-Manual-Ponto-Encontro/dp/0131894080/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267390759&sr=1-1)

In addition to our Wednesday classes, we will try to meet once a month for more social gatherings where we can invite native speakers of Portuguese to practice conversation in a social setting, perhaps play games in Portuguese, share food and drink.

There are two payment options. One can pay $70 monthly (4 meetings), or $190 for three months (or 12 meetings).

How much proficiency with Portuguese is appropriate to participate in these classes?
If you have some proficiency with the preterit (pretérito perfeito) past tense, you are sufficiently prepared. We will begin with a review of the preterit tense followed by introduction of the imperfect past (pretérito imperfeito).

Please pass on this information to anyone you think might be interested in joining us. Questions can be directed to me by email or by phone at 650 283 9053.
